Warning: Turn the volume down on your computer before playing the video.

This is a video from Jishan, Shanxi Province in China during the Chinese New Year midnight fireworks. In old traditions, Chinese thought a giant monster would come to their villages once a year to eat their animals, food, and human flesh. It was discovered that the beast did not like loud noises. So, the Chinese people began using fireworks to scare the beast away. And, it was once observed that a little girl wearing red was not eaten by the beast because the beast hates red. So, the Chinese people used red to adorn their homes using red paper and other red ornaments.
