Many official buildings and streets will have lions flanking the sidewalk or street. They are good luck and protection symbols. There are always two. They will have a ball in their mouths. And, they are usually identical. But, the one on the right is the male and the one on the left is a female. The only difference is normally what is under their front paw. The male will have a ball and the female will have something different. But, for some reason, the school wanted to make sure there was no doubt about which was the male and which was the female. I thought it very humorous.
Today was another field trip day. We took a walking tour of two of Beijing’s best universities. Sound boring? Yep! We did the same trip this past summer. I really do not see why they take these kids on a walking tour of a university. There are many other things to see in Beijing. And, with it being winter, the campuses are not very pretty to look at. But, we took it in stride. We took some pictures and talked much to one another as we walked.
After lunch, we went to the Science and Technology Museum. This was actually a pretty good museum. It had many things to see and do. Some of the exhibits were not working. And, we only had about two hours to see the museum. I did not get to see everything in that time. It is a very large museum with four floors of exhibits. It is one of the few places I had a good time. There were not any exhibits that blew my socks off. But, the museum was well organized and there was so much to see and do.
I have added these pictures because I thought they were interesting. One of the universities had an outdoor pool. It was not heated I think. I did not see any steam coming from the water. And, yes, there are people swimming in the water. And, on the other pool, there were a couple of people ice skating on the frozen water. The other pictures are all the bikes left by the students for the holidays. Row after row of bikes. Thousands of them parked and chained, waiting for their owners to come back to college.
The kids had evening study time tonight. The problem was, they did not have any homework or anything to so. They were just sitting and talking in the classroom. So, I played some games with them. We played Pictionary and they seemed to enjoy it. The time went by very quickly. Now it is rest time. I have tomorrow off. I will spend the day at the hotel I think. I might sit in on some of the classes and I will just relax the day away. I want to develop a video of the student’s time here. So, I might work on that tomorrow.
I have seen these in other places in China. They make edible art from sugar. You can see the detail and artistry in each candy. Wonderful to watch them make them. Usually they are only two dimensional. The really talented candy makers can make wonderful three dimensional candy art.
