Jim and I decided to take a rest day today. We began by having lunch at Pizza Hut. It is not your USA type of Pizza Hut as this one has mixed drinks, steaks, pasta, and many other foods you will not find on a Pizza Hut menu. But, our goal was for a standard pizza. And, it was good. After lunch, we walked through a park and found the cities art museum. They were featuring a photography exhibit. It was very interesting. It showed the Henan province in a way that was very traditional China. Pictures of traditional weddings, festivals, and people doing ordinary things. I really liked the exhibit. The building looks like giant alien eggs. It is not a very attractive building to me. It is supposed to look like a butterfly when you look at it on google maps. But, I really don’t see it. After the museum, we walked around the lake that was in the center of the park area. It was a nice day. When we got back to the hotel, we rested for a few hours. Tonight we found a billiard hall and played some pool. Overall, it was just a nice relaxing day. Tomorrow, we are taking a day trip to a community outside of Zhengzhou called Nanjie. It is a town that has not exited the Mao era. Apparently the town still plays propaganda over loud speakers, people still wear the old China civilian uniforms, and the scenery will be much the same as it was back in Chairman Mao’s day. It should be very interesting.
